OUR STORY

About us

Bringing death back to life & life back to death.

At Paperbark, we believe death belongs to the living — to families, to community, to those who loved the person most.

We are Australia's first non-invasive funeral home, and everything we do flows from one conviction: that families deserve to be present, informed and in control of what happens to their person.

From the moment someone dies, we walk alongside you — through the hard conversations, the quiet moments, and every decision in between.

Our mission is deeply grounded in transforming how society handles this profound passage - focusing on intimacy, respect, and personal empowerment for those experiencing loss.

We strive to restore the rites of deathcare into the hands and hearts of families and loved ones, enabling them to actively participate in the entire process.

Our approach to deathcare is holistic and inclusive, ensuring that every person we support is done so with the utmost reverence and sensitivity. We provide guidance on caring for loved ones at home or at our facilities in Murwillumbah, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

From the moment someone dies, we walk alongside you — through the hard conversations, the quiet moments, and every decision in between.

We don't rush. We don't outsource. We don't close the door.

Meet the founder & lead Ceremonialist

Halie Halloran

At the heart of Paperbark Deathcare is Halie Halloran, whose life work is steadfast in the rituals of death and ceremony. Halie has always been drawn to the profound aspects of human existence, finding beauty and meaning in nature, myth, lore, and the inevitable cycle of life and death. Her warm approach is one of deep listening and gentle guidance, preferring to feel and understand rather than ‘direct’ the process or conversation.
